Introduction to Decorative Arts

Suitable for anyone interested in creating art but is not sure where to start. There will be a brief overview of several mediums including coloured pencil, pen and ink, water colour, etc. Students will acquire a better appreciation of the medium they wish to study in the future.

Registration: $25 private class with student
Class Date: Scheduled on demand; a two hour class
Supplies: $20 supply fee which includes all supplies as required

Pen & Ink Techniques

This class is an in-depth study for the beginner wishing to learn inking techniques and colour application. The student will learn the basic seven ink techniques; how to transfer a photo to canvas followed with a complete lesson on oil colour application. The class is divided into two six-hour sessions.

Registration: $120 Private Class with Student
Class Date: Scheduled on demand; two dates of 6 hours each or 4 dates of 3 hours each 
Supplies: Student to supply their own Koh-I-Noor Pen.
Supply Fee: $12 supply fee which includes canvas and paints and the loan of brushes.

Genesis Heat-Set Oils for the Beginner

This class will introduce the student to the wonderful world of Genesis....a new heat-set fine art medium. The student will learn about Genesis, its application, blending and other features. Through the use of mixing colours the student will complete a canvas of a pear (as shown).

Faux Finishing Techniques 101

This class is for the intermediate student with prior experience working with acrylics. The student will learn a variety of techniques such as several faux finishes ie combing, ragging on/off, marbelizing, colour washing, combing, gold/silver leafing, bagging, multicoloured stippling, tortoiseshell and smoking. We will also look at texture paste, etching and Frescolina. Opportunity for each student to apply a hands-on approach. Upon completion the student will be able to apply any of these techniques to their decorative arts (great for memory boxes) or their home decorating.

Mixed Media Introduction

This class will introduce the student to mixed media....an artwork consisting of more than one medium. Working with stretched canvas, the student will be supplied with a variety of mediums such as inks, paints, embellishments and a variety of tools....to create their own mixed media.

The student will be encouraged to "think outside the box", emphasizing the joy of creating rather than the achievement of results. We will be discussing and utilizing the basic principles of design such as repetition, unity, harmony, contrast, rhythm, balance, gradation and dominance. Elements of design will also be discussed and encouraged in the student's artwork.

Registration: $100 private class with student
Class Date: Scheduled on demand (5 hours)
Supplies: $40 includes canvas. embellishments, paints with loan of tools.
